From The Boots Up
A publication for people who build things. Not for the people who manage the people who build things. Not for investors, consultants, or anyone who has ever used the phrase "construction ecosystem". For the people on the tools.
What this is
FTBU covers UK construction without the filter. The safety failures, the planning decisions, the policy changes that never quite reach the site hut. The careers, the qualifications, the money, the pressures that define working in this industry day to day.
We write in three registers. Boots: direct, site-level, for the person doing the work. Analyst: evidence-first, for the person trying to understand what is happening to the industry. Expert: precise, for the person who needs to know what it means.
No corporate language. No press release rewrites. No content that exists to make someone look good without telling you something real.
Why it exists
UK construction employs around 2.7 million people. It builds the hospitals, roads, homes and infrastructure that everyone else depends on. It is also an industry that has been structurally ignored by mainstream media, left to specialist trade press that serves the industry commercially more than editorially, and consistently underrepresented in conversations about the future of work, skills, and the economy.
That is the gap FTBU is built for. The trades deserve a publication that treats them as intelligent adults with serious concerns and real stakes. One that reads like it was written by someone who has been on a site, not someone who has read about sites.
